Hollywood or Bust Update

Keegan and Ian have been without wheels for quite some time
but not anymore.
Kevin has labored long and hard, examining every inch of Keegans's 1971 VW
and now the car is on its way to California.
Thanks, Kevin!
I pray it is a blessing to Keegan and Ian!

Hollywood or Bust Update

The saga continues...
Yesterday Keegan and Ian had their electricity turned off. The apartments website said that all utilities were paid and, in all the conversations with management prior to the move and at the time of the lease signing, no one informed Keegan otherwise. Electricity had been on for the last month and a half and no bill was received but they were told that they were responsible for the power bill and would just have to go without until they could get it set up in their name. Presumably, it states that they are responsible for it in their 40 page lease agreement but had failed to notice it the day that they signed it. Hopefully, they will get it all set up on Monday and we will report the management company to the BBB for their false statement on their website. In the meantime, they have an adventure on their hands - life by candlelight. Also, the financial aid check has not come in. Money is low, food is low, and power is off. But, this too shall pass.
On a positive note - Ian has a job at a pizza joint! Yay!!!

Hollywood or Bust Update

A week ago I mailed three packages to Keegan and Ian via UPS. On Thursday they found 2 packages in the hallway outside their apartment door. After running the tracking numbers I discovered that they should have found 3 packages outside their apartment door. And, of course, the package that was stolen was the most important package, it was the package packed with the most care and thought. Ian searched every inch of the apartment complex until he discovered the opened package tossed in the garbage. Thankfully, every bit of the package was recovered with the exception of Keegan's passport. The passport has been invalidated but we must now take measures to protect her identity and we must also replace her passport. Is it two steps forward, one step back? Or is it one step forward, two steps back?

Hollywood or Bust Update

Keegan and Ian spent a couple of days in Las Vegas allowing them an opportunity to refresh themselves. Keegan showed Ian around town, showing him where she grew up. They spent some great time with Papa and Helen. And brought in the new year with them and Helen's family. Papa and Helen, thanks for being such gracious hosts. I know they had a great time. Rested and rejuvenated, they headed to Los Angeles. The trip took longer then anticipated - it seems as though most of Los Angeles brought in the new year in Las Vegas and they all had to make their way home. It was raining when they arrived but they did secure their apartment and get the essentials in for that first evening. They had difficulty finding parking and woke in the morning to a parking ticket. Welcome to Los Angeles! The second day they finished unloading the vehicle and did some grocery shopping. The next morning they awoke to another parking ticket. The management at the apartment complex then informed them that they could get a parking permit at the DMV. With their lease in hand they went to DMV to attain a parking permit but were informed that a lease is not enough to prove residency on that street, they would need a driver's license with their current address on it. Attaining a driver's license in California can be quite time consuming, in the meantime they have to try not to get anymore parking tickets. Otherwise, things are going well - Ian is on a job hunt and Keegan started school yesterday, she believes that she is going to enjoy it. The adventure continues!

Hollywood or Bust Update

Keegan and Ian have arrived safely in Las Vegas, NV where they will rest and relax and bring in the new year with Papa and Helen. They will drive the final leg of their journey on Sunday. It has been quite the adventure thus far. A little recap... Day One: ticketed by an ill-tempered cop; Day Two: fuel pump goes out requiring a tow and repairs; Day Three: a snowstorm and in the road a FedEx truck on its side. They have been experiencing the kinds of trials and tribulations that can be encountered on any road trip. They have also been experiencing great blessing. The fuel pump went out in Clines Corners, only 30 minutes away from where Grandmama was waiting to visit with them. The vehicle was towed to Moriarty and they visited with family while waiting for the repairs to be completed. Serendipitously, Grandaddy and Margaret were returning from doctors appointments and they all ended up in Moriarty at the same time. So Ian got to meet Grandmama, Aunt Christie, Eric, Joseph, Cori, Grandaddy and Gram. Also, the mechanics completed the job about an hour earlier then expected allowing them to get to Albuquerque before it was too dark. And Grandmama relieved their financial burden. Thank you so very much, Mama! For Keegan and Ian this visit seemed to refresh their spirits!!
They also had a wonderful visit with the Winfield's. Hearty and warm food and good company was awaiting them. They received some trip planning advice, a tank of gas, and some extra funds. Thank you all so very much for the love and support expressed to Keegan during this venture. Despite the travails she is feeling richly blessed and I thank you all from the depths of my heart!!!

Hollywood or Bust

My dear Keegan and her boyfriend, Ian, are officially en route to California - their adventure has begun!

They had dear friends help load them up and send them off.

Goodbyes were said.

California, here they come!

I personally send them off with prayers of protection, blessings over her venture and wishes of Godspeed.

Yesterday our church family helped me convey all of that by singing a very special song to her that included a sweet slideshow and then praying a blessing over her while those who wished to laid hands on her (some laid hands on me, thanks).
If possible, I will include some footage of the song and slideshow but for now here are the lyrics and I give this message to her again.
Be strong in the Lord and,
Never give up hope,
You're going to do great things,
I already know,
God's got his hand on you so,
Don't live life in fear,
Forgive and forget,
But don't forget why you're here,
Take your time and pray,
These are the words I would say.
