Lifestyle of Learning 2016 Edition: Volume Thirty-Two

December 26-31

The time has arrived to make the final entry in the 2016 Edition of the Lifestyle of Learning.as another year comes to a close.  Now I share with you our adventures in living and learning in this last week of 2016.

I spent the bulk of the week in Kansas hanging out with the hubby.  One day we took a little road trip to Salina, Kansas where we had hamburgers at a quaint little hamburger joint, checked out the history of the area at the Smoky Hills Museum and picked up a couple of new-to-us vintage items at Auld Lang Syne antique store.

The hamburger joint has been around since 1922 and is simple - the hamburgers are thin, onion laden, with pickles, ketchup and mustard with no cheese, small bags of chips and cans of soda.  I really enjoyed the experience!

I love small museums and this was no exception.  I was able to learn more about the history of the area from it's Native American roots...
...to the arrival of settlers of European descent...

...to the contribution of Salina residents to various war efforts...

Pencil sketches done by a German POW at Camp Phillips in Salina, KS during WWII.

...and, finally, to the 1960's  (This was a delightful touring exhibition).

Everywhere we went was in downtown Salina and, of course, it had some cool architecture.  I loved this art deco style building.

The boys, on the other hand, stayed home and did their own thing.
Christian saw Rogue One again with his friends and it offered him an opportunity to really analyze the film.  He is still impressed with the character development.
Maceo went to lunch with a friend then dinner with another set of friends.
Maceo watched Black Swan and Birdman.
Bishop made vol au vents.

Christian went to the gym.
Maceo read five chapters of Thinking Like a Director.
Christian went to game night with his friends; he wrote a Star Wars campaign.
Bishop had pottery lessons.
Maceo had lunch with a friend who just returned home from college for the holidays then he went to a friends birthday party - the family rented a small theatre and showed their daughters favorite movie, Austenland.
Bishop made open-faced sandwiches with chicken that he marinated as if he was making pastrami.
Maceo watched Requiem for a Dream and Whiplash.
Maceo had vocal lessons.
All the boys went various places to bring in the New Year.  Maceo went with a group of friends to Branson, Bishop went to a friends house for a sleepover, and Christian went to a friends party.  Herb and I brought in the New Year quietly at home.  I worked on Bishop's birthday party preparations and watched The Exotic Marigold Hotel.  Herb almost made it to midnight.

And with that we come to the end of another week and the end of another year.
We move on to the year 2017 and the Lifestyle of Learning 2017 Edition.  I am sure that we have many, many adventures ahead of us.  I am sure that there is much living, loving and learning to come!!!
